4 steps to become a professional photographer

Are you passionate about photography? I’ll share with you a few tips to go from beginner to expert:

Through the photos I post on instagram, I’ve found a way to express myself. Over the years, I’ve perfected my skills in photography, pushing my limits each time, with the goal of being able to make photos that look like me! Those that correspond to me in every way.

Through this article, I wanted to share with you my experience, the traps to avoid but especially the points not to neglect to become a professional photographer!

4 TIPS TO INCREASE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS:

I wanted to start with something obvious, but most of the time taken not very seriously, and that’s a shame!

1. THE EQUIPMENT :

Choosing a quality equipment is essential for an optimal rendering. Many people persist in using their smartphone for their photos, but nothing replaces a real camera if you want a professional picture.

The camera will give you access to additional settings and options, switchable lenses will also give you access to new perspectives. You’ll be able to bring your photo to life, with natural blurs or angles that you can’t achieve with a smartphone. The quality of your photo will be much higher and so will the rendering.

There’s no debate, the camera is the essential ally of anyone who wants to become a professional photographer.

If, like me, you want to develop an instagram or blog account based on photos in which you put yourself on stage, you’ll certainly have to be accompanied!

2. THE PHOTOGRAPHER :

To put it bluntly, after going through several phases in my journey, where I had to juggle with friends, family and a few professional photographers to assist me in photoshoots. Unfortunately, none of these solutions were perfect.

The problem was that no one was really involved and the photoshoot seemed more like a constraint than a joyful activity, but above all it was difficult to make them understand my vision and transmit them my creativity.

The result was always disappointing…

For more than 2 years now, it’s my boyfriend who accompanies me in my photoshoots and plays the role of the photographer. My photos are more accomplished and the results really reflect my initial ideas.

It’s really important to find someone you can count on. If you find your permanent photographer, you can be sure that you’ll get the results you expect and save a lot of time! You can think of a friend who shares your passion for photography for example. It is important to limit yourself to one or very few people, in order to feel a connection between you and get the best results.

To make original photos you need original ideas!

3. THE CREATIVITY :

Over time my content has evolved enormously, I started with photos that I would describe as “simplistic”, since the staging and the idea behind the photo were very schematic or even non-existent. Today I try to convey a message through my work, I try to give meaning to the pictures I post.

I don’t think that creativity is innate, but that it has to be worked on… Of course some people have a more or less developed artistic appetite, but it is important to shape one’s creativity thanks to the different sources of inspiration on which one can draw.

Among my favorite tools, there is Pinterest on which I build up boards with my monthly inspirations, but also fashion lookbooks of different brands, especially luxury brands that really use the art of staging to showcase their products, I love it!

Inspiration does not mean wanting to copy, and redo a photo identically, but you have to ask ourselves what you particularly like about it, that can be the model’s pose, the light, the makeup … Then just put all the ideas and inspirations together and find the perfect setting for the photo.

Once the photo is taken, it is also important to enhance it with a quality editing.

4. THE EDITING :

I use the Lightroom software for the editing of all my photos, you can work on the colors and thus totally change the aspect of the photo by bringing it warmth and highlighting some features. In order to keep a consistent feed, I recommend to only use one preset*. (*Preset is the term given to a filter on Lightroom).

There are also a good number of apps that can be used to briefly edit your photos, but if you want a professional picture, I strongly advise you to use Lightroom.

Photo editing is really something you cannot neglect, it’s a must! It’s the finish of your creation, you have to give it all the necessary attention.

I hope that this article will help and guide you so that you can quickly improve your photography skills!
